Seven lucky cadets spent the week brushing up on their racing techniques, under the watchful eye of racing instructor Fiona Jones. All seven achieved the RYA Start Racing qualification, and felt attending the course will really help them in their future sailing and racing. There was beautiful weather all week, and they spent time both in the river, as well as out on the solent.

As part of the course the Cadets had to learn about boat handling, racing rules, tactics and meteorology, they also got a chance to go in a Feva (crewed boat) to enable them to practice teamwork, and experience being part of a team, along with the importance of working together.

At the end of the course all the participants were given a “Flagstaff” t-shirt courtesy of the Flagstaff Trust, which was established in 1999 by members Liz and Humph Jowett, The Flagstaff Trust aims to help youngsters to undertake all types of sailing.
